π¬Speaking Class L 1 | Ep 3. Say Your Country & Nationality in Korean
(μ λ ~μ¬λμ΄μμ.)
μλ νμΈμ! ν°λμ€μ΄μμ. π
λͺ¨λλ€ μ μ§λμ΄μ?
μ΄λ² μνΌμλμμλ λλΌ(country)μ κ΅μ (nationality)μ λν΄ λ°°μΈκ±°μμ.
μ€λμ μ€μν ννμ?
"μ λ __μ¬λμ΄μμ."
π©π« Hello, this is Tina! π
How have you been?
In today’s episode, we’re going to learn how to say your country and nationality in Korean.
The key sentence is:
π£️ “μ λ __μ¬λμ΄μμ.” ➡️ I am (nationality).
πΊ λ¨Όμ , μμ μμ κ°μ΄ λ΄μ! Let’s watch the lesson video first!
π λλΌ μ΄λ¦κ³Ό κ΅μ νν(Country Names & Nationalities)
π‘ λ¨Όμ , “λλΌ”μ “μ¬λ”μ΄λΌλ λ¨μ΄λ₯Ό 곡λΆν΄μ. First, let’s learn two words: “λλΌ” (country) and “μ¬λ” (person).
π λλΌ [λλΌ]: Country
νκ΅, λ―Έκ΅, ν리ν, μ€μμ€!
λͺ¨λ λλΌμμ.
μμ΄μ νκ΅μ΄ νκΈ°κ° λ¬λΌμ.
Korea, USA, Philippines, Switzerland!
They’re all countries.
(Remember: Korean and English names are different!)
π μ¬λ[μ¬Λλ]: Person
νκ΅μ΄μμλ λλΌ μ΄λ¦μ “μ¬λ”μ λΆμ΄λ©΄ κ·Έ λλΌ κ΅μ μ λ§ν μ μμ΄μ.
In Korean, if you add “μ¬λ” after the country name, you can express someone’s nationality.
μλ₯Ό λ€μ΄(For example:),
-
νκ΅(Korea) → νκ΅ μ¬λ (Korean)
-
λ―Έκ΅(USA) → λ―Έκ΅ μ¬λ (American)
-
μκ΅(UK) → μκ΅ μ¬λ (British)
μ΄μ²λΌ “λλΌ μ΄λ¦ + μ¬λ” = κ΅μ ννμ΄μμ.
So, the pattern is: ✅ Country + μ¬λ = Nationality
ν°λλ μ΄λ λλΌ μ¬λμ΄μμ?
What nationality is Tina?
"νκ΅ μ¬λ(Korean)"
π§ λ£κ³ λ°λΌν΄μ!Listening Practice

λͺ¨λ μ΄ν΄νμ΄μ?
λ€ κ°μ΄ λ΄μ.
Did you understand?
Let's review:
π‘ "μ μ΄λ¦μ μ λνΌμμ.(My name is Jennifer.)"
μ§λ μκ°μ λ°°μ΄ νν κΈ°μ΅λμ? Do you remember what we learned last time?
'-μ΄μμ./μμ.'

π μ§λ μμ 보λ¬κ°κΈ° (Click here to review the previous lesson)
μ λνΌμλ λ°μΉ¨μ΄ μμ΄μ. κ·Έλμ '-μμ.'λ₯Ό μ¨μ.
-
μ λνΌ (Jennifer): no λ°μΉ¨ (final consonant) → use '-μμ.'
"λΉ(Bill)"μ λ³ΌκΉμ?
리μ λ°μΉ¨μ΄ μμ§μ?
'-μ΄μμ.'λ₯Ό μ¨μ.
-
λΉ (Bill): has λ°μΉ¨ ‘γΉ’ → use '-μ΄μμ.'
"μ μ΄λ¦μ λΉμ΄μμ. (My name is Bill.)"
"μ μ΄λ¦μ-" λμ μ μ§§κ² ννν μ μμ΄μ.
"μ λ-"
Let’s say it shorter now. Instead of "My name is-", we can also say "I'm-"
- "μ μ΄λ¦μ μ λνΌμμ." π "μ λ μ λνΌμμ."
- "μ μ΄λ¦μ λΉμ΄μμ." π "μ λ λΉμ΄μμ."
π‘"μ λ μκ΅ μ¬λμ΄μμ. (I'm British.)"
μ΄λ² μνΌμλμμ μ€μν ννμ΄μμ. And now the important line:
-
“μ λ ___ μ¬λμ΄μμ.” (I am [nationality].)
μ΄μ μ¬λ¬λΆλ μ°μ΅ν΄λ³ΌκΉμ? Now it’s your turn to try!
π¬ μ€λμ νν: '-μ/λ'
μλ λ¬Έμ₯μ μμΈν λ΄μ.! Let’s look at this sentence:
"ν°λλ νκ΅ μ¬λμ΄μμ. (Tina is Korean.)"
ν°λ λ€μμ λκ° μμ΄μ? '-λ'μ΄ μμ§μ?
What’s after “ν°λ”? Yes — it’s λ.
'-μ/λ'μ λ¬Έμ₯μ μ£Όμ μΈ μ£Όμ΄λ₯Ό λνλ΄μ. '-μ/λ' marks the topic (subject) of the sentence.
μ΄λ»κ² μΈκΉμ?Here’s how to use it:
-
λ°μΉ¨μ΄ μμΌλ©΄(with final consonant) → '-μ'
-
λ°μΉ¨μ΄ μμΌλ©΄(without final consonant)→ '-λ'
