Hello, everyone! Welcome back!
μλ νμΈμ, μ¬λ¬λΆ!
When I was young, Korea was not well-known in the world.
Many people didn’t know where Korea was, and even asked, “Are you Japanese? Are you Chinese?”
But now, everything has changed.

K-pop, movies, and dramas have captured hearts around the globe.
From BTS and Blackpink at big award shows, to Parasite and Squid Game winning international honors, Korea has become a country the whole world knows and loves.

September 25, 2025. Tina’s Diary.
When I was a child, Korea was seen as a very small country in the world.
I remember watching a street interview on TV.
The reporter asked, “Do you know Korea?”
And most people answered, “No.”
That’s how unknown Korea was back then.

When I traveled abroad, people always asked, “Are you Japanese? Are you Chinese?”
And when I said, “I’m Korean,” they would ask, “North Korea? or South Korea?”
Every time, I felt a little bitter inside.

In my twenties, many foreign teachers came to Korea to teach English.
But most of them stayed for a year without even trying to learn Korean.
At that time, Korean just didn’t seem like a language worth learning.

It was the same with food.
Dishes like kimchi were often ignored, and when foreigners saw naengmyeon (cold noodles), they were shocked and asked, “How can noodles be cold?” π

Now it makes me laugh, but back then it showed how little presence Korea had in the world.

And most recently, the Netflix movie “K-Pop Demon Hunters” has become a big hit, sparking even more interest in Korean language and culture.
This movie mixes K-pop with Korean emotions, bringing a fresh surprise to young viewers worldwide.

Even Korean words have entered the Oxford English Dictionary.
Words like kimchi, chimaek (chicken + beer), and hallyu (K-wave) are now used by people all over the world.
Kimchi, once ignored, is now something people line up to buy.
Foreigners want to try foods they see in Korean dramas.
And on the streets, it’s common to hear people say “Oppa!” and “Annyeonghaseyo!” naturally in Korean.
