μλ νμΈμ~ ν°λμ€μ΄μμ. π
μ€λλ νκ΅μ΄ κ°μ΄ 곡λΆν΄μ!
μ€λμ λμ΄λ₯Ό λ§ν΄μ.
Hello~ I’m Teacher Tina. π
Let’s study Korean together today!
Today we will talk about age.
πΊ λ¨Όμ , μμ μμ κ°μ΄ λ΄μ!
Let’s watch the lesson video first!
π Listening Part λ£κΈ° ννΈ
π μ€λμ λ¨μ΄(Today’s Words) — μ«μ (Numbers)
μ€λμ μ«μ[μΛμ§/μΛμ§]λ₯Ό λ°°μ λ³Ό κ±°μμ.
νκ΅μ΄μλ μ«μκ° λ κ°μ§ μμ΄μ.
νμμ΄ μ«μμ μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μμμ.
Today we will learn numbers.
In Korean, there are two kinds of numbers.
Sino-Korean numbers & Native Korean numbers!
π νμμ΄ μ«μ vs μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μ
| μ«μ | νμμ΄ μ«μ (Sino-Korean) |
μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μ (Native Korean) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | μΌ (δΈ) | νλ |
| 2 | μ΄ (δΊ) | λ |
| 3 | μΌ (δΈ) | μ [μΏΛ] |
| 4 | μ¬ (ε) | λ·[λ«Λ] |
| 5 | μ€ (δΊ) | λ€μ―[λ€μ£] |
| 6 | μ‘ (ε ) | μ¬μ―[μ¬μ£] |
| 7 | μΉ (δΈ) | μΌκ³± |
| 8 | ν (ε «) | μ¬λ[μ¬λ] |
| 9 | ꡬ (δΉ) | μν |
| 10 | μ (ε) | μ΄ |
| 20 | μ΄μ (δΊε) | μ€λ¬Ό |

| 40 | μ¬μ (εε) | λ§ν |
| 50 | μ€μ (δΊε) | μ° |
| 60 | μ‘μ (ε ε)[μ‘μΉ] | μμ |
| 70 | μΉ μ (δΈε)[μΉ μΉ] | μΌν |
| 80 | νμ (ε «ε)[νμΉ] | μ¬λ |
| 90 | ꡬμ (δΉε) | μν |
| 100 | λ°± (ηΎ) | λ°± (λ³΄ν΅ νμμ΄ μ¬μ©) |
※ μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μλ λ³΄ν΅ 1–99κΉμ§λ§ μ¬μ©νκ³ , 100λΆν°λ νμμ΄ μ«μλ₯Ό μ¬μ©ν΄μ.(Native Korean numbers are generally used only from 1 to 99, and from 100 onward Sino-Korean numbers are used.)

λλ€. ( (ζΌ’ε) is shown for reference only.)
λμ΄λ₯Ό λ§ν λλ μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μλ₯Ό λ§μ΄ μ¨μ.
μ€λμ μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μλ₯Ό λ°°μΈ κ±°μμ.
When we talk about age, we often use Native Korean numbers.
Today we will learn Native Korean numbers.
1) 1λΆν° 9κΉμ§ μμ μ | Small numbers (1~9)
2) 10, 20, 30, 40 … ν° μ | Big numbers (10, 20, 30 …)
π κΈ°μ΅νμΈμ! (Remember!)
μμ°λ¦¬λ§ μ«μλ 1–99κΉμ§λ§ μμ΄μ.
Native Korean numbers exist only from 1 to 99.
100λΆν°λ νμμ΄ μ«μλ₯Ό μ¬μ©ν΄μ.
From 100 and above, Sino-Korean numbers are used.
μλ₯Ό λ€λ©΄ (For example):
-
- λ°± → ηΎ (100)
-
μ² → ε (1,000)
-
λ§ → θ¬ (10,000)
-
μλ§[μ¬λ§] → εθ¬ (100,000)
3) ν° μ + μμ μ | Big + Small numbers
μ«μλ μ΄λ κ² λ§λ€μ΄μ.
ν° μμ μμ μλ₯Ό λν΄μ.
κ°μ΄ ν΄λ΄μ.
We make numbers like this: big number + small number.
Let’s do it together.
π μ«μ μ°κΈ° (How to Form Numbers)
ν° μ + μμ μ = μ«μ
Big Number + Small Number = Final Number
- μ΄ (10) + μΌκ³± (7) = μ΄μΌκ³± (17)
- μ€λ¬Ό (20) + νλ (1) = μ€λ¬Όνλ (21)
- μλ₯Έ (30) + λ€μ― (5) = μλ₯Έλ€μ― (35)
- λ§ν (40) + μν (9) = λ§νμν (49)
- μ¬λ (80) + λ (2) = μ¬λ λ (82)
μ΄λ ΅μ§ μμμ.
μ΄λ²μλ λμ΄λ₯Ό λ°°μμ.
Not difficult, right?
Now let’s learn age.
π μ€λμ νν (Today’s Expression) — λμ΄ λ§νκΈ° (Talking about Age)
μ«μ λ€μ “-μ΄”μ λΆμ΄λ©΄ π λμ΄λ₯Ό λ§ν΄μ.
If you add “-sal” after a number → it means age.
μλ₯Ό λ€μ΄ λ³Όκ²μ.
Examples:
π λμ΄ λ§νκΈ° μμ (Age Examples)
| μ«μ | λμ΄ | English |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | λ€μ― μ΄ | 5 years old |
| 27 | μ€λ¬ΌμΌκ³± μ΄ | 27 years old |
| 39 | μλ₯Έμν μ΄ | 39 years old |
| 40 | λ§ν μ΄ | 40 years old |
κ·Έλ°λ° μμΈκ° μμ΄μ.
νλ, λ, μ , λ·μ μ‘°κΈ λ¬λΌμ Έμ.
But there are exceptions.
hana, dul, set, net change like this:
| μ«μ | λμ΄ | English |
| νλ | ν μ΄ | 1 year old |
| λ | λ μ΄ | 2 years old |
| μ | μΈ μ΄ | 3 years old |
| λ· | λ€ μ΄ | 4 years old |
μλ₯Ό λ€μ΄ λ³Όκ²μ.
Examples:
- 53μ΄ → μ°μΈ μ΄
- 42μ΄ → λ§νλ μ΄
ν κ°μ§ λ κΈ°μ΅ν΄μΌ ν κ² μμ΄μ.
λ°λ‘ 20 (μ€λ¬Ό)μ΄μμ.
μ€λ¬Όμ “-μ΄”μ λ§λλ©΄ “μ€λ¬΄ μ΄”μ΄ λΌμ.
One more to remember!
20 (μ€λ¬Ό).
When “-sal” comes, μ€λ¬Ό → μ€λ¬΄ μ΄.
νμ§λ§ νλ, λ, μ .. μμ μλ₯Ό λνλ©΄ “μ€λ¬Ό”μ μ¨μ.
But if you add small numbers, use “μ€λ¬Ό”:
| μ«μ | λμ΄ | English |
| 20 (μ€λ¬Ό) | μ€λ¬΄ μ΄ | 20 years old |
| 21 (μ€λ¬Όνλ) | μ€λ¬Όν μ΄ | 21 years old |
| 22(μ€λ¬Όλ) | μ€λ¬Όλ μ΄ | 22 years old |
| 23(μ€λ¬Όμ ) | μ€λ¬ΌμΈ μ΄ | 23 years old |
| 24(μ€λ¬Όλ·) | μ€λ¬Όλ€ μ΄ | 24 years old |
| 25(μ€λ¬Όλ€μ―) | μ€λ¬Όλ€μ― μ΄ | 25 years old |
π λμ΄ λ¬»κ³ λ΅νκΈ° (Asking & Answering Age)

π λμ΄: 64μ΄ Q: λͺ μ΄μ΄μμ?
✅ μ λμ΄λ μμλ€ μ΄μ΄μμ. ✅ μ λ μμλ€ μ΄μ΄μμ. I’m sixty four years old. |
π μΆκ° ν (Extra Tip) : "-μΈ", Formal Age
π λμ΄λ₯Ό λ§ν λλ λ³΄ν΅ “-μ΄”μ μ¨μ.
κ·Έλ°λ°, “-μΈ”λ μμ΄μ.
“-μΈ”λ νμμ΄ μ«μμ κ°μ΄ μ¨μ.
π νμμ΄ μ«μ + μΈ
Usually we use “-μ΄l” for age.
But there is also “-μΈ”.
“-μΈ” is used with Sino-Korean numbers.
π Sino-Korean number + μΈ.
μλ₯Ό λ€μ΄λ³Όκ²μ.
Examples:
- μ€λ¬Όν μ΄(21 years old) → 21μΈ (μ΄μμΌ μΈ)
- μλ₯Έ μ΄(30 years old) → 30μΈ(μΌμ μΈ)
“-μΈ”λ μ‘°κΈ λ μ μ(formal) ννμ΄μμ.
곡μ λ¬Έμ, λ³μ, λ΄μ€μμ μμ£Ό μ¨μ.
“-μΈ” is a more formal expression.
You see it in official documents, hospitals, or news.
π΅ λ¬Έν ν (Cultural Tip) — Age in Korea
μ¬λ¬λΆ, νκ΅μμλ λμ΄κ° μ€μν΄μ.
μμ? π μ‘΄λλ§, λ°λ§ λλ¬Έμ΄μμ.
λλ³΄λ€ λμ΄κ° λ§μΌλ©΄, λ³΄ν΅ μ‘΄λλ§μ μ¨μ.
λμ λμ΄κ° κ°κ±°λ μ΄λ¦¬λ©΄, λ³΄ν΅ λ°λ§μ μ¨μ.
κ·Έλμ μ²μ λ§λ λ “λͺ μ΄μ΄μμ?” νκ³ λ¬Όμ΄λ΄μ.
In Korea, age is important.
Why? π Because of polite speech and casual speech.
If someone is older than me → usually I use polite speech.
If someone is the same age or younger → usually I use casual speech.
That’s why people ask “How old are you?” when first meeting.
κ·Έλ°λ°, λ¨μν μμ΄ μ λ¦¬λ§ νλ €λ κ² μλμμ.
μλλ°©μκ² μ΄λ€ λ§μ μ¨μΌ νλμ§ μκΈ° μν΄μμμ.
π μμ λ°λ₯Έ λνλ₯Ό νκΈ° μν΄μμμ.
But it’s not only for hierarchy. It is to know how to speak politely.
To have polite conversation.
λ νλ μ¬λ―Έμλ μ¬μ€μ΄ μμ΄μ.
μμ μλ “νκ΅ λμ΄”κ° μμμ΄μ. (μλ¬Όνμ λμ΄μ νκ΅ λμ΄κ° λ¬λμ΄μ.)
One more fun fact.
Before, Korea had “Korean age”.
- μκΈ°κ° νμ΄λλ©΄ λ°λ‘ 1μ΄. (When a baby was born → already 1 year old.)
- κ·Έλ¦¬κ³ μν΄κ° λλ©΄ ν μ΄μ λ λ¨Ήμμ΄μ. (When New Year came → add 1 more year.)
κ·Έλμ νκ΅ λμ΄λ λ€λ₯Έ λλΌ λμ΄λ³΄λ€ λ³΄ν΅ 1~2μ΄ λ§μμ΄μ.
νμ§λ§ μ΄μ λ λ¬λΌμ‘μ΄μ.
π μ§κΈμ λͺ¨λ μμΌμ΄ μ§λλ©΄ ν μ΄ λ λ¨Ήλ “λ§ λμ΄”λ§ μ¬μ©ν΄μ.
So Korean age was usually 1–2 years older than international age.
But now it is different.
Now everyone uses only "λ§ λμ΄( = real birthday age)."
μ¬λ¬λΆ, μ΄μ μμμ£ ?
νκ΅μμ λμ΄κ° μ μ€μνμ§ μμμΌλκΉ,
π νκ΅ μ¬λλ€μ΄ λμ΄λ₯Ό λ¬Όμ΄λ΄λ μ΄μ λΉν©νμ§ λ§μΈμ! π
So now you know!
Age is important in Korea.
So, when Koreans ask your age, don’t be surprised anymore!
