Today, I want to talk about a popular Korean drama on Netflix called “폭싹 속았수다” ("When Life Gives You Tangerines"). This touching story begins on Jeju Island, a beautiful island in the south of Korea. It's a great show, and also a good learning resource for Korean learners!

Let’s take a closer look together.

The drama is about a girl named Oh Ae-soon, who loves literature, and a boy named Yang Gwan-sik, who has liked her for a long time. The story follows their lives through the four seasons—spring, summer, fall, and winter—showing how people change over time. It feels like watching a beautiful poem.

The title is unique, isn’t it? “폭싹 속았수다” is a phrase in the Jeju dialect. It means “You’ve worked so hard” or “Thank you for your effort.” It’s a warm expression that gives comfort to people who lived through difficult times.

The English title is “When Life Gives You Tangerines.” Have you heard the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”?
